Random Ennui
The hunt for a permanent place to live has begun, and, fingers crossed, has ended. I put a deposit down on a studio apartment by the River Aire on Saturday. It is PERFECT. Open brickwork, small, in my budget, tons of natural sunlight, view of the river. It's not even really a studio- there's a dividing wall between the living room and the bedroom. And it's across the street from a pub.
This makes me worried that something horrible is going to happen, and I'm not going to get it. Because the universe loves to laugh at me. Guess what universe? You owe me, big fracking time. Be glad I'm not charging interest.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to having a permanent home. I've been living out of two duffle bags and two small boxes, because I don't want to unpack. Unpacking would be like settling in, and I don't want to feel settled in my temporary abode, as cool as the building is:

Although, even with my two duffle bags, and two small boxes (which gets "Two Turntables and a Microphone" stuck in my head every time I think about it), I am not looking forward to moving. Again. I have been moving in one shape or another for 2 months now.
Cooking has been an interesting experience, mostly because I refuse to buy more than 3 spices (other than salt and pepper- they're givens). I've gotten creative with curry powder, paprika, and rosemary. Miss Inertia- your mom would be proud of what I can do with rosemary. When I move into my permanent place, I am going bonkers and buying spices.
"What did you do this weekend, Kat?"
"I bought 500 pounds of spices."
"..."
By the way, my stupid American keyboard does not have a "pound" sign. Frack.
I also want to talk about signage.

Sheepscaaaaaar. It's just fun to say. And, it makes me imagine a whole town full of pirate sheep.
Dress up... like... an American?

This was outside the fancy dress shop (aka the costume store). It confuses me.
Side note: Fancy dress is a big thing here. Every Friday night on my way home, I pass hoards of university students all costumed out, and on the way to the bars.

A lapdance superclub! In the train station! Train late? No problem! Get a lapdance to kill the time.

I've thought about this one for a while. And I thought I got it, when I realized that you can buy regular or mature cheddar cheese in the grocery store. But, really, I still don't get it. However, I do believe that if my Christian upbringing had involved more cheese, I may have stuck with it. Oh, who am I kidding?
